Legacy of Love

Celebrating 60 Years | My Grandparents Anniversary

John & Norma Celebrating 60 Years of Marriage

These two love birds are my precious grandparents! This past June my sister got married so we took a couple minutes during the wedding day to sneak in some anniversary pictures for their upcoming 60th anniversary!

They met in first grade and went to grade school together. Norma moved away in high school and several years later they met again at a Campus Crusades meeting and two months after that John got down on one knee and proposed! My grandpa is a true cowboy. He has always loved farming and animals. My grandma has been the best example of a help mate and has selflessly supported him in all their adventures. As a kid I saw my grandparents as a fun place to visit, I remember going out to Arizona to the ranch where they lived. Where I learned to ride horses, make homemade ice cream, drive a golf cart, and make all sorts of crafts with my grandma. As an adult I see and appreciate the legacy they are leaving. I see my grandparents still faithfully loving each other and choosing to put each other first. I see how marriage is a mixture of fun and hard, tears and laughter, adventures and struggles. And I have never seen anything so beautiful. These two people are faithful. They chose to love each other 60 years ago, for better or for worse, and they are still choosing this today. They are not perfect, but that is the beauty, two imperfect people refusing to give up on each other choosing to be faithful.

In honor of this special day I asked them if they would be so willing to answer some questions!

What do you love most about him/her:  He is the love of my life. He has always been very kind, loving and caring. He always compliments my cooking even when it is bad!
She is a wonderful cook, housekeeper, makes me western suits, and manages to take care of me despite my stubbornness.
Secret to 60 years of marriage: Always care for, be respectful and considerate of each other’s needs.
Advice to newly weds: God needs to have first place in your marriage, then comes your spouse and family.
Make prayer and Bible reading a priority. Start your day with a kiss and end your day with a kiss.

My grandpa loves his poems! He wrote this sweet one for my grandma

My Wife Norma
Your sweeter to me than
     a Pina Colada,
More beautiful than
     a Piano Sonata,
Good looks and great heart-
      your the whole enchilada,
So loving you isn’t a
      choice, I just gotta!
I love you a bushel and a peck,
And a hug around the neck!

Thank you for your beautiful love story and for sharing it! I am thankful for such a great example of marriage!
